1) Letter
of the Week: Concept-Estate Planning-The Human
Element
This
week's letter is designed to do double
duty.
First,
it's a great letter to increase awareness of
the issue of estate planning. As such, you could
send it to anyone age 50 or older. Your Computer
Operator can easily prepare a selection rule
for all Clients older than 50. (If not, sign
him or her up for CO
Class #5, Selection Rules Overview.)
Second,
I'm posting it in the Pre-Retirement Campaign.
When you look at it, you will notice an optional
box at the top of the letter. As mentioned in
the header, if you aren't using this for your
Pre-Retirement Campaign you'll want to delete
that box.
Update
on Pre-Retirement Campaign
As
I've said several times this year, I think one
of the most important things you will do in
the next decade is get out in front of the retirement
rollovers. They are going to happen in massive
numbers. But beginning in 2015, there will be
a dramatic drop as the baby boom generation
fades into the baby bust.
So
I am listing below links to the various articles
I have written in e-Gorilla as well as a link
to the Campaign Center. If you have not started
the Pre-Retirement Campaign, I cannot tell you
the amount of money that will disappear into
other advisors books.

3) Cut
Down Paperwork with Quik!™ Forms Library
or Laser App Software®
The
Quik!™
Forms Library and Laser App Software®
are programs that let you quickly fill in the
many forms that dominate the service side of
this industry, using the basic contact data
from your Gorilla®
database.
If
you do not already enjoy the productivity savings
offered by at least one of these fine firms,
check them out:
Quik! at www.etiforms.com
and Laser App at www.laserapp.com.
Quik!
Forms Library
Using
Quik! Forms Library is easy. As you download
and set it up on your computer, you just choose
"Gorilla 2.x" as your database.
Once the program is set up, at the top of its
window you see "Step 1 – Choose
A Client." All of your Clients and Prospects
are available alphabetically by Contact Group
from a drop-down field. You choose a CG, then
any address and Individual in it (or let it
use its default).
If
you even suspect that anything has affected
the data that Quik! picks up—for example,
someone has moved or married—simply choose
the "Refresh Data" button at the
top of the window. (This is also how you remove
a CG from the Quik! database.)
For
Step 2, you select one or more forms to print
your data on. And if a form you need is not
among the huge number in their Forms Library,
the company offers to add it!
The
final result is the Gorilla information you
need on the form(s) you want in a PDF file.
Additional
processes, such as adding forms, may take some
getting used to. But the basic flow is easy
and saves you time.
Laser
App
For
a few years now, Gorilla has meshed with Laser
App. The process consisted of running a Gorilla
custom report, converting the data to an Excel
spreadsheet, and then cleaning up the data in
Excel. Once you were satisfied that your data
was formatted and organized, you could import
it into Laser App.
That
process was neither user-friendly nor efficient.
We actually improved the custom report so that
the result needed no clean-up, but that still
wasn’t good enough. (However, for those
of you who just can’t wait, or who have
been using the previous report: Click
here for the Software Updates page with
the improved custom report and the 4-page illustrated
instructions for it.)
Bill
Good Marketing is now proud to announce that
the Gorilla 2.x Laser App Plug-in is in final
development and testing. It will take what was
a tedious and confusing process and make it
simple and reliable.
This
plug-in will allow you to “fire and forget.”
Once you’ve established the permanent
link between Gorilla and Laser App, you click
a Refresh button and ALL your Client and Prospect
data will be updated in Laser App.
But
in order to get the most from the dynamic link
between Gorilla and Laser App, you MUST fill
in the “Outlook Type” field for
all Individuals who should be labeled Primary
Individual or Spouse. As you’re about
to see, that’s not difficult, but it will
require some work from your staff.
So
while we’re getting the Laser App Plug-in
for Gorilla ready, here’s how to get ready
for it.
1.
On the “Individual” page of the
Maintain Contact Group form, highlight an Individual.

2. If you need to change or fill in the "Outlook
Type - Individual" field, click the down-arrow
and choose "Primary Individual" or "Spouse."
(There's no harm in also marking Children, etc.,
but at this time the Plug-in won't transfer
those to Laser App. So if you're pressed for
time …)

3.
Repeat for the other Individual(s).
By
the way, one advantage of Laser App Software
is that—unlike the Quik! Forms Library—it
will store additional information beyond what
you copy from Gorilla. The disadvantage is that
its Plug-in isn't available this week.
But stay tuned!

4) Fat Rabbit University
Years
ago, a good old boy in Arkansas told me, "Bill,
my problem is that my brokers are all talking
to skinny rabbits." I immediately adopted the
term "skinny rabbit" to refer to Clients without
much money.
And
I referred to fat rabbits. I even had a direct-mail
letter inviting people to attend "Fat Rabbit
University," where they would learn how to find
fat rabbits instead of skinny rabbits.
All of which brings me to this picture of a
graduate of "Fat Rabbit University."

No,
it's not a stuffed animal, it's real!

Tip of the Week
Advisors:
Did you know that you can update your own User
Profile for our website?
It's
actually very easy to do. From the Users Home
Page you will see a link in the blue top menu
bar titled "Edit My Profile." Your
"User Profile" contains your user
name, password, company, and address information.
In
order to protect your intellectual property,
we recommend that you change your passwords
whenever a staff member leaves. While you're
at it, we also suggest updating the rest of
your information and deleting any email addresses
for your team that are no longer needed.

Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Bill
